Webquest on population growth, Year 2 of the international secondary schools, 'Brugklas' TTO, age 12.
Dear colleagues,
This Geoquest aims to introduce to the students the differences in birth rates, death rates, life expectancy and natural growth between the different regions in the world. Linked to this they investigate the population structures of these countries. Whithout yet going into any of the reasons why, students should, by the end of this webquest be able to locate the regions in the world with low growth rates and high growth rates, and they should be able to recognise the kind of population structure that are the result of the above.
Before doing this geoquest with your students, the following terms and skills need to have been introduced:
1. Birth rates, death rates and life expectancy
2. Natural population growth
3. How to work out the growth rate and how to calculate the absolute growth over one year.
4. Population structures.
The students will need worksheets to write down the answers to the questions and draw their final conclusions. On this last task they may need some help, so you may want to do this with the group as a whole, or at least go over it in class.
To obtain the worksheet click on the hyperlink with your RIGHT Mouse button, and choose 'save as'. Download first, then open. Like this the worksheets are opened in word and can be adjusted and printed out more easily.
